WEST YARMOUTH — Gerhard M. "Gerry" "Robie" Robichaud, 82, of West Yarmouth, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Virginia K. (Kettner) Robichaud for 60 years.
Mr. Robichaud was born in Provincetown and lived his entire life on Cape Cod. He attended Yarmouth schools before earning his engineering degree from Wentworth Institute.
During the Korean Conflict he served with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, as a member of the Far East Air Force. He was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Airman Second Class in 1952.
After his military service, he returned to the Cape, worked with Rusty's Plumbing and Heating in Hyannis before founding Robies Refrigeration in 1959. Gerry enjoyed spending time at the "shop" right up to this year while leaving the day-to-day operations to his sons.
Gerry loved spending summers cruising around Lewis Bay and Nantucket Sound on his boat "Mr. Cool," and spending time during the winter skiing with his family and friends at his ski house in Jackson, N.H.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Robichaud is survived by three sons, John and his wife, Joanne of Barnstable, Barry of Yarmouth, and James and his wife, Colleen of West Barnstable; two daughters, Patricia Evans of West Yarmouth, and Judith Olsen oof Lummi Island, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Theresa (Robichaud) Tamash, Michael, Stephen, Thomas, Betsy, Emily, Jessie, and Nelly Robichaud, Justin and Derek Evans, and Nathan and Britta Olsen; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Telma (Robsham) Robichaud; a brother, Joseph A. Robichaud; and a great-granddaughter.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
Interment will be private.
